Can your naval equipment survive extreme shock events? - Femto Engineering - Femto Engineering

Can your naval equipment survive extreme shock events?

Get fast, trusted STANAG 4142 qualification support before shock requirements put your project at risk. Our service is trusted by NATO organizations, COMMIT, and the Ministry of Defense for more than 15 years.

What is STANAG 4142?

NATO uses STANAG 4142 as shock qualification requirements for naval shipboard equipment, ensuring mission-critical systems remain operational during extreme shock events such as underwater explosions and impact loads.

For defense suppliers, compliance is often mandatory before deployment.

Femto Engineering helps you demonstrate compliance faster and more efficiently through advanced shock analysis and simulation.

Practice example: Shock analysis for critical naval equipment

What happens when a sudden shock event hits a naval vessel?

Critical ship systems must withstand massive acceleration forces within milliseconds. If they fail, the consequences can be severe.

That is why shock analysis is essential for validating naval and defense equipment.

The simulation setup

  • 1,200 kg equipment mounted on a ship deck
  • Extreme shock acceleration event
  • Full impact occurring within 1 millisecond

The simulation shows how the deck structure absorbs the shock load during impact.

The results

The structure performed well under extreme conditions. While local stresses exceeded limits in some areas, this did not indicate critical failure.

In naval shock events, limited deformation is often acceptable, as long as mission-critical equipment remains operational.

Simulation helps defense suppliers:

  • Validate designs before physical testing
  • Reduce certification risks and redesigns
  • Demonstrate compliance with defense standards
  • Understand structural behavior under extreme shock loads
