Welcoming two new engineering minds to Femto: Meet our interns Deyan and Casper

At Femto, curiosity drives everything we do. Whether we’re solving complex flow challenges, improving product performance, or helping customers innovate faster through simulation, fresh perspectives play an important role in pushing boundaries.

That’s why we’re excited to welcome two new interns to our engineering team: Deyan Narain and Casper Verster.
We sat down with Deyan and Casper to learn more about their backgrounds, what they hope to achieve during their internships, and what excites them most about the future of simulation technology.

Both bring a strong passion for engineering, simulation, and problem-solving, but each with their own unique path into the world of CFD. From exploring fluid behavior to combining traditional engineering calculations with advanced simulation tools, they’re joining Femto to deepen their expertise and contribute to real-world engineering challenges.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what brought you to Femto?

Casper:

“I’m Casper, a 31-year-old aeronautical engineering student. Before returning to university, I worked for several years after completing my previous education, but I felt ready for a bigger challenge.

That decision brought me back to engineering, where I discovered how fascinating fluid behavior and the physics behind it can be. As I started searching for a graduation internship, I specifically looked for companies that specialize in CFD, and that search eventually led me to Femto.”

“I’m currently a student with a strong interest in engineering, simulation, and data-driven technologies. During my studies, I learned a lot about computer-simulated calculation methods, which sparked my interest in CFD and FEM software.

I enjoy combining hand calculations with computer-aided stress analysis. My first introduction to Femto happened at my faculty, where one of Femto’s engineers gave a guest lecture. Seeing how simulation software is used to solve real-life engineering challenges inspired me to deepen my knowledge in this field.”

What are you hoping to learn or achieve during your internship?

Casper:
“I want to learn more about multi-phase CFD models because this is still relatively new to me.

My internship assignment focuses on finding a method to control flow distribution uniformity in two-phase evaporators during the design phase. One challenge I’ve already noticed is how time-intensive CFD simulations can be, so I’m especially interested in finding the right balance between simulation speed and accuracy.

By the end of my internship, I hope to better understand these CFD principles, their applications, and become more confident in solving problems and assessing simulation results independently.”

Deyan:
“Right now, I’m focused on learning the ins and outs of CFD simulations, especially how to properly set up, validate, and interpret simulation models.

During my internship, I want to strengthen both my theoretical understanding and practical experience with simulation systems. In the future, I’m also interested in Reduced Order Models (ROM) and Physics-based AI to predict CFD simulations more efficiently.

I’m looking forward to learning from experienced professionals, contributing to projects, and building a strong foundation for my future career.”

What excites you most about working in this field?

Deyan:

“What excites me most is the level of analysis that simulation makes possible for structures and flow behavior.

Being able to simulate complex systems and gain insights without relying only on physical experiments is incredibly interesting. The constant innovation in this industry keeps it dynamic and challenging, which motivates me to keep learning.

I also find it rewarding to work in a field that directly contributes to solving real-world engineering problems.”

“What I enjoy most is the variety. At Femto, projects come from many different industries, so there’s always something new to learn. No two problems are exactly the same, which keeps the work interesting. Sometimes it feels like solving a puzzle, figuring out what’s really happening inside a flow and understanding the physics behind it. Seeing how that translates into real-world applications is what makes this field so rewarding.”

Investing in the next generation of engineering talent

At Femto, we believe innovation starts with curiosity, and that includes creating opportunities for emerging engineering talent to grow.

With Deyan and Casper joining our team, we’re excited to support their development while continuing to tackle complex engineering challenges for clients across industries through advanced simulation technologies.

We’re happy to have you both on board and look forward to seeing where your curiosity takes you. Welcome to Femto, Deyan and Casper!

At Femto Engineering, we are always open to supporting talent. Want to learn more about our team and work culture? Stay tuned for upcoming internship and career opportunities.
