The release of Siemens Simcenter STAR CCM+ version 2402 brings us all kinds of new exciting features. In this article we will give you a quick overview of these new features. The features are divided in four categories; CAD, mesh, physics and postprocessing features.

CAD
First the new CAD features of Siemens Simcenter STAR CCM+ 2402. One great feature that is now available is the advanced bulk sewing option. With this option you can sew a whole lot of sheet bodies in a single solid body. With this option the sucess rate is higher than in previous versions and is especially tailored to large numbers of sheet bodies. Not only can you now sew large numbers of sheet bodies, when doing other operations like adding fillets, chamfers or defeaturing selected faces Simcenter STAR CCM+ 2402 will give an indication where the operation fails. It is no longer necessary to perform each defeaturing, chamfer of fillet operation one by one because somewhere something is going wrong. An indication will be given in red there where the feature fails. Allowing you to reach your goal quicker.

Other great features within this category is that it is now possible to switch between hidden and visible bodies. Furthermore, it is also easier to extrude sketches and keep imprinted edges when uniting multiple bodies.

Mesh
Within the mesh features lots of amazing new implementations have been added. First of all you have now an interactive classification of the part surfaces in the surface repair tool. You can also color by part-surface and contacts in the surface repair tool. This will allow you to identify where issues are present faster. It will also allow you to be ableo review the results of imprint operations quicker.

Within the surface mesh there is now a smoother transition between different types of meshes and a better mesh alignment between anisotropic curves. This is especially great news for those of us who work a lot with batteries.

Physics
One great new feature is the introduction of a new area-weighted centroid formulation for mesh cells. This reduces cell skewness and therefore improves solver robustness. This directly leads to shorter simulation times caused by faster convergens. Another speed-up in simulation time is found with the option to add a coupled flow and an energy solver with a segregated species solver. Especially in reactive flows this can give a simulation time decrease of up to 10 times!

Another great new feature is the implementation of the new Volumetric Photon Monte Carlo (VPMC) model. This allows for accurate modeling of radiation absorption and scattering. And not only that, it also gives speed-up of up to 37x when a combination of the volumetric and surface photon omonte carlo (V-S PMC) models is used. This uses the VPMC only in the regions where the absorption accuracy is needed.

The option to store flamelet tables in single precision will reduce the file size by 50% without a loss in accuracy.

Using the Lagrangian Multiphase models it is now possible to add droplet evaporation models with incompressible equations of state. And in the discrete element method it is now possible to create a temperature dependent contact physics. This also gives few new field functions, such as the contact temperature.

It is now also possible to implement Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) in Siemens Simcenter STAR CCM+ 2402! For now this feature is only implemented for powertrain lubrication using oil. This new physics option does not require a volume mesh and can therefore easily handle complex body motions and geometries. Stay tuned for further implementations in this great SPH implementation in future versions of STAR CCM+!

Postprocessing
It is now possible to automatically create a video within Simcenter STAR CCM+ 2402. The video is based on hardcopies but does not require intermediate storage of those frames. The .mp4 movie file is written as soon as the simulation ends or stopped.
