The Ocean Cleanup uses Femap to develop the best cleanup systems

The Ocean Cleanup initiative develops advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. This technology makes use of long floating barriers which act as an artificial coastline, passively catching and concentrating ocean debris, powered by the ocean’s natural currents. A full-scale deployment of their systems is estimated to clean up 50 % of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years.

The Ocean Cleanup engineering team has purchased Femap with NX Nastran to virtual prototype their cleanup systems. Femap/NX Nastran is a recognized industry standard in the Marine and Offshore industry. Femap/NX Nastran simulation capabilities will reduce the need for expensive physical testing and therefore will be instrumental in bringing The Ocean Cleanup concept ideas to life in an affordable way. The simulation data in combination with physical testing will enable engineers to develop a system fully resistant to severe conditions during the cleanup of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
