Simcenter STAR-CCM+ has different licensing options for different types of capacities and users. In this article we give a summation of the different licensing options. Each option has a brief individual explanation on how they work and in the image bellow you can see them sorted by type of usage and size of model(s).
With this license you run 1 session at a time where you both mesh and solve on one core. This is for users running simulations on a workstation, and could also be called a pay-by-the-core licensing. For every additional core you want to solve on, you need one Token. So for example 1 Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Serial Session + 5 tokens would solve on 6 cores in total. When you have a workstation with many cores, the Power Session is becomes the more cost-efficient option.
With this license you run 1 session at a time using unlimited cores for a fixed, yearly price. Whether 10 or 10.000 cores are used, you pay the same. If you want to run Simcenter STAR-CCM+ on a big cluster, and maximize throughput of a large simulation, this is the license for you. Get answers in hours, instead of days, and maximize return on your cluster investment.
This license is mainly for cloud, burst and sporadic usage. You get unlimited cores, and metered usage starting from a minimum of 500 hours. There is unlimited burst capability for peak project loads and you can run multiple jobs at once.
This is a unique approach to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ licensing. Together with a Serial Session they allow you to run one Simcenter STAR-CCM+ job on multiple cores. Each Power Token allows you to utilize one additional core.
Power Tokens provide ultimate flexibility as they enable you to run any number of concurrent configurations of a design exploration campaign, each on as many cores as needed.
10 Power Tokens allow you to launch one Simcenter STAR-CCM+ session and to access all pre- and post-processing features (with the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solver being deactivated).
Academic licenses have to be requested at Siemens PLM Software and are for selected academic institutes only. So if you are a student you should ask your university if they have an educational license available. If not, ask a representative from your university to contact Siemens PLM directly.
The price of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ depends on many things and Femto Engineering can only serve in the Benelux. If you live somewhere else it is best to contact Siemens PLM directly. You can also search for your Siemens PLM partner in your region with the partnerfinder!
