About Femto Engineering

Femto Engineering is established in 1997 as a spin-off from the Delft University of Technology. Femto has developed itself into a knowledge-intensive engineering firm specialized in FEA, CFD and recently 1D system simulation. Our team facilitates a diverse and growing customer base in the efficient realization, validation and optimization of their products and systems. About SMO

Customized machine construction is the core business of SMO. They also offer services related to industrial automation and technical constructions. Thesis proposal

The aim of your thesis is to reduce the commissioning time and costs of one by SMO developed machines/systems. You will do this by building a virtual representation of this machine/system (virtual twin).

As such, the goal of the thesis is twofold:

  • Mathematical modeling of the system/machine dynamics;
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) testing/validation using the virtual twin model.

Siemens systems simulation software Simcenter Amesim will be utilized to develop the model and to test the PLC.

  • Engineering student eager to explore simulation technology.
  • Mechatronic background: system dynamics, system control.
  • Highly motivated and mature attitude.
  • Minimum 32 hours a week available to work on the thesis.
  • Due to the pandemic, you will work remotely but we assure top notch support.
